The Washington Post is reporting Bill Richardson is withdrawing his nomination for Commerce Secretary because there is a federal investigation into a California company who gave a generous donation to Richardson’s campaign. The company was subsequently awarded a very lucrative contract from the state of New Mexico. Pay to play certainly extends beyond Illinois.
You have to question why Richardson was picked in the first place–was he truly upfront with Obama’s transition team regarding this federal investigation? Did Richardson truly resign on his own, or did Emanuel put some heavy handed pressure on Richardson?
